The Chief Estimator – Transportation is responsible for leading the estimating department for transportation projects, including GDOT, local Municipal, and related transportation infrastructure projects. This role ensures accurate cost estimates, competitive bids, and compliance with company standards and client requirements. The Chief Estimator will manage a team of estimators, oversee bid strategies, and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and executives to secure profitable work.
– Leadership & Management:
o Direct and mentor the estimating team, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and professional development.
o Establish and enforce estimating procedures, standards, and best practices.
o Identify and manage new bid opportunities across various advertisement platforms
– Estimating & Bid Preparation:
o Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop detailed cost estimates.
o Prepare and oversee bid proposals for transportation projects, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
o Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure compliance with project requirements.
– Strategic Planning:
o Collaborate with senior leadership on bid strategies and market positioning.
o Monitor industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain accurate pricing models.
– Risk Management & Compliance:
o Identify potential risks in project scope and pricing; develop mitigation strategies.
o Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies.
– Collaboration:
o Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients during preconstruction phases.
o Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed.
· Minimum 10 years of experience in estimating transportation projects, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
· Strong knowledge of GDOT specifications, transportation construction methods, and industry standards.
· Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., AgTek, ProEstimate) and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
· Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
