Heavy Equipment Operator Job Description

Position Specifics:

Reports to: Construction Foreman

Desired Experience/Skills: 

  • Ability to do physical labor and tasks
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Ability to follow guidance and instructions
  • Ability to work extended hours and some weekends
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
  • Prior experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers and excavators
  • Strong hand-eye coordination
  • Sound understanding of safety guidelines

Purpose:

To prepare and manipulate heavy equipment to ensure the appropriate movement of materials.  Operators must conduct their duties in a safe, diligent manner at all times.  Operators monitor workflows and suggests alternates to enhance productivity, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maneuvers motorized heavy equipment to ensure the accurate removal and placement of materials.
  • Observe stipulated safety codes at all times
  • Report injuries and equipment damage to management
  • Inspect trucks, excavators, bulldozers and other heavy equipment for proper performance
  • Operate bulldozers, excavators, articulated dump trucks, scrapers, and other equipment
  • Drive pick-ups, flatbeds, and water trucks as needed
  • Set up and maintain erosion control
  • Set up and maintain traffic control
  • Check and maintain grade stakes
  • Provide general maintenance of equipment and tools
  • May be required to do general office work, shop work, or housekeeping
